What bothers me these days...

...Is how everybody seems to want to fit in, at all costs, to lifestyles and trends that just aren’t them.

I see them walking around daily when I go out shopping or hang out downtown: bunches and bunches of twelve year old girls wearing fishnets, hello kitty shirt, gigantic plastic necklaces and hairbows that could break your neck and flash out your eyeballs. A.K.A: your typical scene wannabe. These are the girls that once saw Audrey Kitching, Raquel Reed, Kiki Kannibal (or in my words, queen of the wannabes) and decided they wanted to be different too…read: they wanted to look exactly like them. And so they go to a Claires, a Hottopic, a Britain, an Attitude etc. and buy everything they think is “Scene”, next thing you know, they’re browsing about on google and myspace, trying to find someone to rip off, because yeah…that makes you absolutely original, and so scene omgsh!

Excuse me while I go and barf…

Conclusion: the scene is dead, it’s been eaten, mauled, devoured and barfed out years ago, and though it sucks, with all the wannabe’s walking out there, it’s not coming back. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore some of the previous ‘scenequeens’, but more in their usual style, and because of what they do. My personal favorites though, are not your usual ‘queen’.

I’m talking about Angelica Selin (Murderotic), who is one of THE most original girls i’ve ever seen around. I’m talking Miryam Säter Lumpini, who not only looks awesome, but actually does something to make other people look good as well: being a tattoo artist. Call me whatever you want, but honestly, originality isn’t based on the amount of ‘friends’ you have on Myspace/Facebook/Twitter/Hyves. It is based on a person being themselves, of not being afraid to do what he or she does, on looking the way you want to look and not giving a crap what others think of you, because that’s just who you are. Whether you’re ‘scene’, gothic, emo, metal, cyber, punk or any other ‘style’, you’re you, and that’s what matters.

So hereby I end, never be afraid to be who you truly are, don’t let other people put you down because you’re different. Remember that they most likely aren’t brave enough to act out on what they want, and you are.

With love,
Lisa <3
